Sophie Kalmin Peer Ambassador, National Scholarships & Fellowships Program

Biography

As a sophomore pursuing American Studies & Middle Eastern Studies, she’s deeply connected to her Jewish heritage, having grown up in Houston with significant ties to Israel and American Jewish life through school and her community. Sophie is committed to fostering interfaith connections across the campus, especially in her role as the president of EIPAC and on Hillel executive board. She's also thrilled to be part of the second cohort of the Geller Fellowship, a selective trip that brings a diverse group of students to Israel and the UAE to foster interfaith relations and learn about the Abraham Accords.

Sophie remains active as a legislator on SGA and College Council, a Student Ambassador for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, and a writer at Spoon University. After her undergraduate studies come to an end, Sophie plans on attending law school with the ultimate goal of codifying higher standards of animal care and conservation collaboration within American zoos into law.
